Musk’s SpaceX is being sued by a female engineer for salary discrimination

Ashley Foltz, a SpaceX engineer, has filed a lawsuit against the Elon Musk-run aerospace corporation, claiming wage discrimination where women and people of color are paid less than males and people of color who are white.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-221244″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-musks-spacex-is-being-sued-by-a-female-engineer-for-salary-discrimination-download.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com musks spacex is being sued by a female engineer for salary discrimination download” width=”1208″ height=”804″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-musks-spacex-is-being-sued-by-a-female-engineer-for-salary-discrimination-download.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-musks-spacex-is-being-sued-by-a-female-engineer-for-salary-discrimination-download-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1208px) 100vw, 1208px” title=”Musk's SpaceX is being sued by a female engineer for salary discrimination 3″>

According to Foltz’s planned class-action complaint, she was employed as a base-level engineer and paid $92,000, despite the fact that males with equivalent or less experience received offers of up to $115,000, according to Forbes.

Ashley started working at SpaceX as a propulsion engineer in September 2022.

Musk and business leaders have “no legitimate justification for their discriminatory pay practices,” the complaint said.

One of the few female engineers at SpaceX, Foltz identified herself as such.

When the wage Transparency Act of California went into force, she learned about the wage difference.

Foltz said that SpaceX had broken California labor laws, and she requested that the court “award civil penalties and monetary damages to her and any other affected employees.”

To yet, SpaceX has not responded to the case.

The Musk-run aerospace business has already been charged of using unfair recruiting and promotion procedures.

The US Department of Justice (DoJ) filed a lawsuit against SpaceX in August of this year alleging employment discrimination against refugees and asylees.

According to the complaint, SpaceX systematically prevented asylees and refugees from applying and refused to employ or consider them due to their citizenship status, in violation of the US Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), from at least September 2018 to May 2022.

The DoJ complaint claimed that for a number of years, SpaceX falsely said in job advertising and public remarks that it could only recruit US citizens and legal permanent residents, often known as “green card holders,” in accordance with federal rules known as “export control laws.”

“Our investigation found that SpaceX failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hiring regardless of their qualification, in violation of federal law,” stated Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke.
