On the first day of the first Test in Hyderabad, Leach was hurting his knee trying to stop a boundary when he struck the ground.

Even though he was able to play on, the swelling in his knee limited him to just four over stints for the rest of the Test.

Even though Leach could only bowl 10 overs in the second innings after bowling 26 overs in the first, he was still able to remove Shreyas Iyer, and England won by a margin of 28 runs.

His absence from the second Test in Vizag, which India won by 106 runs to square the five-match series, was due to his lack of development.

It was thought that Leach may recover with a 10-day break before the third Test in Rajkot, but after more evaluation, the left-arm spinner made the decision to travel back home for additional treatment and miss the last three games.

He will return from Abu Dhabi, where the England squad has been staying ahead of the third Test in Rajkot, which begins on Thursday, according to an ECB statement.

“Leach will work closely with the England and Somerset medical teams in respect of his rehabilitation.”

England said that they would not be selecting a successor for Leach, who has served as their main spinner while Ben Stokes has been captain.

It should be mentioned that he had just recovered from a back stress fracture that prevented him from playing in the Ashes tournament last summer.

With Leach out of the picture, England’s sole alternatives for spin are the youthful trio of Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, and Shoaib Bashir, who replaced Leach in the second Test and is the team’s lone all-rounder.

On Thursday, February 15, the third Test match between India and England is slated to take place at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
