Indus Appstore is launched by PhonePe

With Walmart backing PhonePe, which today announced the opening of the Indus Appstore, the rivalry in the app store sector is expected to grow fierce in the near future.

PhonePe is seeking to develop a more localized and competitive mobile app store economy for India with this project. Indian users may download more than two lakh mobile games and applications from the Appstore in 45 different categories. These applications will be easily accessible to users in twelve Indian languages. There are around 300 app shops worldwide, with the Apple App Store and Google Play Store holding a monopoly on the market.

Developers may post their work on Appstore for free for a year, in contrast to other shops. Additionally, as part of a worldwide first, the Appstore gives game and app developers the freedom to choose any third-party payment gateway for in-app purchases, and if they opt to utilize an external payment gateway, they won’t be assessed a commission. Indus will eventually provide its own catalog and in-app charging systems as well, but app developers will only be able to use them at their discretion.

“Indus Appstore challenges the status quo, ushering in an era of more healthy competition in the mobile app marketplace, which in turn should help create a more democratic and vibrant Indian digital ecosystem,” said Sameer Nigam, CEO and founder of PhonePe.
