<p>In the 1970s and 1980s, Vinod Khanna was regarded as one of the top heartthrobs. His manner and sense of flair were unmistakable. In the film business, Vinod Khanna made a name for himself and was renowned for being among the highest-paid performers of his time, ranking among industry veterans Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. In the 1970s, Vinod Khanna was seen as Amitabh Bachchan’s rival; nevertheless, Vinod Khanna’s three blunders altered the trajectory of his career.</p>

<p>‘Man Ka Meet’, directed by Sunil Dutt, was Vinod Khanna’s acting début. From this movie, he received a great deal of praise from critics. Vinod Khanna’s breakthrough performance came from his portrayal of an irate young man in “Mere Apne.” His part in movies such as “Aan Milo Sajna,” “Puarb Aur Paschim,” “Sachaa Jhutha,” and “Mera Gaon Mera Desh” further cemented his image as a formidable antagonist.</p>
<p>‘Anand’ (1971) and ‘Zanjeer’ (1973) were breakthrough performances for Amitabh Bachchan, whose career was at its height during this period. In addition to becoming a celebrity, Vinod Khanna worked alongside Amitabh Bachchan on the movies “Amar Akbar Anthony” and “Parvarish.” However, Amitabh Bachchan commanded the screen in movies like “Khoon Pasina” and “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar,” while Vinod Khanna’s parts became less significant.</p>
<p>When Vinod Khanna, at the height of his fame, took a five-year sabbatical in 1982 to follow his spiritual mentor, Osho Rajneesh, it dealt another damage to his career. Vinod Khanna’s career was fatally affected by this hiatus, and he was never able to regain his previous stature.</p>
<p>Later in his acting career, Vinod Khanna portrayed a number of iconic fathers in successful motion pictures, including “Dabangg” (2010), “Wanted” (2009), and “Dabangg 2” (2012).</p>
<p>On April 27, 2017, Vinod Khanna passed away from severe bladder cancer. That same day, he was cremated at Worli Crematorium.</p>
<p>The Government of India presented Vinod Khanna with the 65th National Film Awards’ Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest cinematic honor, posthumously in 2018.</p>
